Music can be theoretically traced to prior to the Paleolithic age. The anthropological and archaeological designation suggests that music first arose (among humans) when stone tools first began to be used by hominids . The noises produced by work such as pounding seed and roots into meal are a likely source of rhythm created by early humans.* We aim to produce music that makes people happy. * Source: wikipedia

Polka is known for the distinctive sound of the accordion that acts as the foundation of the music. However, polka bands can also include fiddles, clarinets, trombones, tubas, and a rhythm section depending on the region. No matter the region, polka has an upbeat sound played in 2/4 time that gets people dancing.

Polka is also a distinctive couple dance that combines three rapid steps and a hop. In fact, the word “polka” is believed to come from the Czech word “polka,” which means “half step.” Anna Slazak, a Czech farm worker, created the “polka step” around 1830. It’s the only dance from the 19th century that’s survived. In the 1840s it became popularized after a dance instructor performed the polka in Paris.
One of our favorite places to play is a party. We love to have fun and play music, and it makes us even happier when the people at the party are having fun too! Ask us about playing at your next party.
We have lots of experience playing at festivals which when you think of it are just really large parties! Ask us about headlining or adding to your already packed entertainment lineup for your next festival.
We plan trips to many locations, including festivals in Michigan and even festivals in Germany. Book a trip with us and enjoy seeing polka around the world.

Check back here for more information about our 2/5ths Party Band!
The 2/5th’s Party Band is comprised of former members of the Jerry Schneider Band – Denis Thull on drums, Patti Schoenborn-Kinjerski on keys and vocals, Tom Schneider doing whatever it is he does and the newest member to join us, Jon Kabat on upright bass. Jon and his wife Gina live with their family in Kiel, WI. Both have a varied musical background that brings a great touch to the band! That rounds out our 4 piece ensemble.
From time to time, you’ll see Jerry Schneider sitting in on trumpet and he knows that he’s welcome to jump in any time he would like.
